He recognises Alpha, he runs to them, but the ice breaks and he falls through, Alpha helps to rescue him from drowning, and they are reunited. Keda continues his journey alone, as the season changes to winter, the beginning of the Last Glacial Maximum (the last Ice Age), he encounters a pack of wolves feeding on a frozen lake. One night they are approached by a menacing pack of wolves, they hesitate seeing Alpha, who steps forward and greets them, and with Keda's blessing, Alpha joins them. Their companionship grows, and they learn to hunt small boar together, Keda gives the wolf the name Alpha. He sets out for the village without the wolf, but it follows him. Gradually gaining the wolf's trust, helping it to heal and feeding it, Keda establishes himself as dominant by feeding himself first. The next day, Keda takes pity on the injured wolf (introducing Chuck) and cares for it. On the way, he is attacked by a pack of wolves, ha manages to escape them climbing up a tree, he wounds one wolf, while the others leave. When he climbs back to the top of the cliff, he sees the memorial cairn left by his tribe, he realises he must trek back to his village alone. He survives and wakes when the water has dried up, he splints his injured foot. A sudden heavy rainfall causes a flood in the ravine below, Keda loses his grip and falls into the water. Keda is awoken by a vulture who pecks him, he tries to climb down the rest of the way down the cliff. The tribe leave him for dead, and place the symbolising rocks in memoriam, Tau is stricken with grief. Tau attempts to climb down to him, but another tribe member stops him, he assures him in good faith that Keda is dead and there is no way to reach him. During the chaos, Keda is thrown off the edge of the cliff, he grips the rough cliff edge with his hand, but he loses his grip and falls further where he breaks his leg and is knocked unconscious. After a week of travelling, the hunters reach of steppe bison, which they attempt to stampede off a cliff in relative success. They leave the member for dead, he is given a memorial service in the form of placing rocks to symbolise the passing of his spirit into the afterlife. One night, the party's fire draws the attention of a sabre-toothed tiger, it lunges out and snatches Keda's friend, they hear the fatal struggle. Tau tests Keda by having him kill a boar that they catch, but he hesitates and refuses. The chief's wife Rho (Natassia Malthe) worries that Keda is not ready, but Tau believes he is, and the hunters set out. The chief, Tau (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), trains his adolescent son Keda (The Road's Kodi Smit-McPhee), allowing him and another boy to join the hunt. Basically set in Upper Paleolithic (late Stone Age) Europe, 20,000 years in the past, a small tribe of hunter-gatherers prepares for an expedition to hunt for the coming winter's food. I had to wait a whole year to see it, I hoped it would be worth it, directed by Albert Hughes (From Hell, The Book of Eli). This film was first advertised in September 2017, but the release had been delayed several times, at least three or four times, including following an investigation about the killing of five bison during filming, meaning it was denied a "No Animals Were Harmed" end-credit certification.
